How to view the metadata of a photo
- Drop your photo on the box, or choose it from your device. You can also pick a folder.
- WipePic looks at the photo and tells you what it found, for example “Found: Location, Camera and phone model, Date and time taken”.
- Click the photo in the list. It opens and shows each field with its value, such as the position, the camera model and the date taken. For a photo with GPS data, it also shows a small map with a dot.
- To remove the data, click Remove hidden data, then download the cleaned photo. Nothing changes in your original file.
What the viewer shows
WipePic groups the hidden data of a photo into these kinds:
- Location: GPS position, altitude and direction, and place names such as city and country.
- Camera and phone model: the maker, the model, the lens and serial numbers.
- Date and time taken: when the photo was taken and changed, with the time zone.
- Author and copyright: the name of the photographer, copyright notes and credits.
- Apps used to edit: the software that made or edited the photo, and its edit history.
- AI labels: labels and settings that mark a photo as made or edited with AI.
- Content Credentials (C2PA): signed records about where a photo came from.
- Text notes in the file: comments, descriptions, titles and keywords.
- Small preview copies: thumbnails that are stored inside the photo.
- Motion Photo video: the short video that is attached to a Motion Photo.
- Other hidden data: any other data in the file that the photo does not need.
A photo shows only the kinds that it really contains. A photo without GPS data shows no location.
Why look before you share
A photo from a phone often carries the exact place where you took it, the model of your phone and the time to the second. Anyone who gets the original file can read that. The viewer lets you check this for yourself before you send a photo to a buyer, a stranger or a public website. To learn more, read what photo metadata is.
Your photo stays on your device
WipePic reads and cleans your photos in your browser. It does not upload them, and you do not need an account. The file that you drop is never sent to a server, so the location and the camera details in it stay with you.
Questions
How do I see the EXIF data of a photo?
Drop the photo on the box above, or choose it from your device. WipePic reads it in your browser and lists the kinds of hidden data it found, for example location, camera and phone model, and date and time taken. Click the photo in the list to open the details and see each field with its value.
Does the viewer show every EXIF tag?
No. WipePic lists the data that it can remove, in plain words: location, camera, dates, author, editing apps, AI labels and so on. It does not print a raw dump of every technical tag. Data that has to stay so that the photo looks the same, such as rotation and color settings, is not in the list. After you clean a photo, WipePic shows what it kept.
Is my photo uploaded to look at its metadata?
No. WipePic reads your photo inside your browser and does not send it to a server. There is no account to make and no upload step.
Which photo types can I look at?
JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, DNG, GIF and TIFF. You can drop up to 300 photos at once, and each photo can be up to 50 MB.
What if the viewer says "No hidden data"?
Then WipePic found nothing to remove in that photo. Many apps, such as messaging apps and social networks, strip metadata when you share a photo, so a photo that you saved from them is often already clean.
